Leader and Follower- Targeting Excellence
I had the opportunity to go through a few books written by
Robin Sharma and Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam last few weeks and this concept of
Leadership and Followership was noticed significantly in their writings.
Listing below a few interesting observations in my blog this week.
·
The Leader who had no title -> Robin Sharma explains anybody can be a Leader,
any time.
o Turbulent
Times Build Great Leaders
o You need
no title to be a leader
§ “Money,
Influence and Position are nothing compared with brains, principles, energy and
perseverance” – Orison Swett Marden
o Manage by
Mind, Lead by Heart, Surrender to change.
o See What
all see. Think What None think.
o To be a
great Leader, Be a great person first.
o The
Deeper your Relationships, the stronger your leadership.
·
“What I can do for you? “Instead of “What you
can do for me?” -> Leader says as per Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam in his book “Learning
How to Fly”
o A leader must
know how to manage a success and failure
o Must be courageous
to explore, must innovate and take decisions
o Must work
and succeed with Integrity
o Must have
a vision and Passion to realize the vision
Parents and teachers play a significant role in transforming the
thoughts of a child from ‘What you can do for me?“ TO “What I can do for you?”.
Knowledge is a combination of Creativity, Courage and “Righteousness”
in heart as per Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Leadership should empower itself with
Knowledge. It will constantly evolve and become more competitive with
knowledge, management and technology. Promoting Team Spirit and Implementing feedback-based
actions are leadership aspects which will constantly promote the same cultures
to the followers. Excellence happens
not by accident. It is a process where one continuously strives to better
oneself in any ecosystem.
Each one of us must target for excellence, doesn’t
matter if we are called a leader or a follower.

DeleteVery interesting topic. Thx for bringing it up.
ReplyDeleteLeadership and followership are mindsets. They’re completely different ways of looking at the world. One is reactive, and the other is proactive. One is pessimistic; the other is optimistic. Where one sees a to-do list, the other sees possibilities.
So don’t wait for the title. Leadership isn’t something that anyone can give you—you have to earn it and claim it for yourself.
